Irish Times online slowly slowly catching up…

The Irish Times is planning to restructure its online operations, moving its news-related content to a new website and scrapping subscription charges for its Ireland.com site.

Industry sources said the publisher would set up a new website for its newspaper content at www.irishtimes.com. Users of the new site will be charged to access some archive material, but access to Ireland.com, including use of the Ireland.com e-mail services, will be free.

Ireland.com will host considerably more video and become a portal-style site. Is the end in site for the paywall? - not quite if they’re maintaining it for archive material, but it’s a step in the right direction.
