Then we came to the end

I’m leaving Ireland. I’ve finally beaten the procrastination engine that forms a large part of my personality and now we can have a bit of an adventure.

It’s terrible news for Jazz Biscuit, as it was created and sustained in the boredom of a desk job. The good thing about the stability of a 9 to 5 like that was how it allowed the mind to wander sufficiently to work on this site.

I’d like to think that if the odd potatoshop or comic needs doing I’ll stick it up, so in that sense maybe this isn’t the end. But it’s the end of the daily updates for the foreseeable future. Who knows; maybe where I’m going will be boring but I doubt that.

The site will stay up so those of you making use of the Image Search et all need not be concerned.

Thanks to all the readers, those who left comments, those who emailed with links and everything else.

Good luck.

Patricia McKenna

Patricia McKenna (left) has announced that she won’t be running for the European Parliament although for shame:

She told The Irish Times yesterday that she had not considered leaving the party and had not thought about any possible future electoral plans.

Much more importantly:

Meanwhile, Ms McKenna has also strongly criticised the RTÉ television celebrity programme, Fáilte Towers , in which she participated. It was nothing more than “an ego-boosting exercise for most of its B-list celebrities” and about winning at all costs, she said.

Can we just see that again?

Thanks.

Temple Bar to rock out traffic signal boxes

Tags:

Here’s a graphical representation so you get the idea of the invoke art project pretty damn fast:

Jazz Biscuit info graphics: They’re fucking amazing.

Anyway. The awesome Scamp (Irish illustration super blog) carries word that Temple Bar is rolling out it’s scheme to cover traffic signal boxes in legal street art.

[Scamp.ie] invoke street art scheme

Could someone draw an anamorphic picture of a traffic signal box onto a traffic signal box? Or an anamorphic picture of a traffic signal box with a picture of a traffic signal box on it so that it looks like a traffic signal box with a picture of a traffic signal box on it but only from a certain angle? Should I shut up?

Aer Lingus?
Photo owned by BobMacInnes (cc)

Nothing at aerlateness.com just yet, but a message:

Coming soon, a db of late flight information for aerlingus as updated by twitter users.

Here’s the on time stats for 1st June 2008 to July 31st from FlightStats.com:

Aer Lingus:

Ryanair:

Did you know that Dublin is the second least punctual airport across Europe after Heathrow? I assume that Aerlateness.com will accurately document the actual cause of all delays: It will document how often that the delay is actually the fault of aer lingus alone and not the result of the interwoven factors involved. Just over half the time, according to June 2008 statistics, its due to the airline:

That’s taken from this PDF here from EuroControl.

Bertie’s back

And he’s presenting an epidode of The Road to Croker.

The TD will guest present the RTÉ Two sports programme ‘The Road to Croker’ on Thursday 21 August from An Gaeltacht in Kerry.

Guests on the show will include Kerry legend Páidí Ó Sé and his three GAA All-Star nephews Darragh, Tomás and Marc.

[RTE.IE] Bertie Ahern becomes RTÉ TV presenter.

Just what we need at this time of national crisis. That cheeky fucker jumping around talking GAA. A boards.ie user is way ahead of me:

Bog ball tv by Bertie.
It’s like AIDS for your tv.

[Boards.ie] Bertie’s new job!

Ireland’s Catholic Crisis

An interesting video that’s popped up on youtube, with embedding disabled:

Ireland has long been a country dominated by Catholicism. Yet paedophilia scandals and rigid conservatism are deterring any would-be priests. Will Ireland be forced to import its clergy just to keep the faith alive?

Good news on the number of vocations: We’ve the lowest in the world. Love it. Recession could drive it up a bit though. Top tip: Get a job in McDonalds instead. You can still fuck people! If you insist, the Dublin diocese has a nice portal site up.

Watch it: Ireland’s Catholic Crisis.

It’s a jazz shaped interweb
