Internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Spencer Tunick will be offering the public the chance of a lifetime to become part of his first back to back city art project in both Cork and Dublin this June. Multiple groups of nude participants will be photographed outdoors by Tunick as part of his series of installations that have previously taken place in cities around the world including New York, Amsterdam and Mexico City.

He’ll be doing it in Cork on the 17th of June and then Dublin Docklands on the 21st June. Exact locations have still not been announced. From the FAQ:

Approximately what length of time will I be naked?
You will only be nude for a few intervals within hours that the art event takes place. Most of the time nude is used getting everyone into position. Once everyone is in place, Spencer will work as quickly as possible to document the installation.

Oh man, just thinking about the problems that could occur at this after flicking through the emergency planning booklet, Jazz Biscuit edition.

Obviously,
inappropriate erection
is a real concern for the men.

And let’s not even go here:
guinness shits
That would not be good.

fight club

Are the kids all right at all?

THE principal of a secondary school has rejected claims that at least a dozen first-year students were running a “fight club” and organising fights on a regular basis.

I saw an overweight kid about two or three days ago, wobbling along. Suddenly, he broke into a run, and I thought maybe there’s hope. Then his overweight father came running up behind him, and then they both burst through the door of burger king. True story.

Yep, our children are little fatties and it’s all everyone’s fault. Pfizer, as part of its corporate responsibility jazz, has been running ‘way2go’ in consultation with the

Department of Education & Science, the Irish Heart Foundation, Dublin City University and The National Parents Council Primary

They do educational stuff and their latest bit was surveying of kids attitudes in relation to weight.

The Sunday Business Post has:

The children surveyed also expressed little sympathy towards people who are overweight. The perception is that such people are lazy, spend all their time watching TV and are therefore responsible for their condition.

Which is great. But what do fat kids think? I have no idea what kind of parental attitude lets a child get fat, but the independent.ie commenters are away on a hack:

I’m quite convinced about the correlation between poorer households and poor food choices.

I think the missing link between the two is education. Poorer households put less importance on education and informed food choices are part of an educated process.

Its so much cheaper to buy some veg and fish/lean meat for a family of 5 than to go out and get 3 chicken boxes, 1 cod supper, batter sausage onion rings and 3 cokes 2 fantas.

Would a tax on fatty foods be possible? Would it have any effect?

  1. Damien Mulley vs. Something.ie; Something.ie counter-accuse Mulley of stealing their content for his aggregator! It’s like some sort of RSS aggregator war. (Also see this post if you are in the dark.)
  2. Burger King profits drop 13% in Ireland. That’s weird. Everyone is so fat.
  3. Blackletter.ie has ArtFinder: …an open interactive project, available through the Blackletter website, which uses online mapping tools to create a dynamic archive of art projects that have taken place outside the gallery. Any artist who has created work of a temporary, ephemeral or location based nature can add a marker to the map, to publish a public record of their project. ‘ArtFinder’ is intended as a publicity and research tool for artists and curators alike and will form an evolving archive of works. I know, holy Google-Maps-Irish-Art-Mash-Up Batman.
  4. Cathal O Searcaigh was on the radio this morning. He’s annoyed that some people are referring to him as a rapist.
  5. Shane Hegarty is scathing of the Metro’s articles this morning containing ’surveys’. Great post.
