New RTE season: Seoige²

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

When Joe O’Shea announced he was jumping ship from Seoige and O’Shea, the afternoon show looked in doubt - but now the news is that his replacement will be the other Seoige!

Best. Afternoon. Show. Ever.

Ok, calm down. We better look at what else those leg-ends over in RTE have in store for us on the autumn schedule.

‘Ballet Chancers’ gives prima ballerina Monica Loughman the challenge of turning a group of hip-hop dancers into disciplined ballet dancers for a performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ at the National Concert Hall.

I can’t wait.

Jazz Biscuit’s top picks:

  • The Panel - Moving to RTÉ One. (Hopefully with Dara Ó Briain back in the saddle)
  • Langerland - An entire series of Langerland? Sign us up.
  • ‘Bertie’ is a three-part documentary series on the life and work of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. Hopefully the knives will be out in full.
  • In ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ Ardal O’Hanlon, Charlie Bird, Joe Duffy, Dana Rosemary Scallon and Pamela Flood trace their family trees.

Dana investigating her family tree? That’s going to be awesome:

No! It can’t be. I’m afraid it is my child. Your great great great grandfather was Satan.

Are the horrendously bad typos creeping in all over Jazz Biscuit posts annoying anyone else as much as they are annoying me? All I can do is apologise. As time goes on I’m getting worse, not better. Monday links kaboom:

Jesus christ. This post was up for about 7 minutes with the above: ‘All I can do as apologise’.

St. Patricks Day kablamo

Fair play to RTÉ on St. Patricks Day. It can’t be easy hoisting a camera in the face of the lovely public and asking them what they think on the one day where they are most likely to say something ridiculous. And they’ve gone the extra mile, with www.rte.ie/stpatricks, where you can view all their reports from all their parades around the country. -10 points for using real player, but hey at least they got the media up there.

The level of political comment filtering through to the parades was great to see, with floats of pharmacists beating up Mary Harney and several Taoiseach’s throwing brown envelopes into the crowds. It is funny too, how we all laugh along with it, and the man in charge ignores it all and keeps on trucking. Stall the Ball has some related pictures on this theme. (found via Captain Mulley.)

The Chancer has a Paddys day related caption competition today.

Fantastic photos of the better floats in the Dublin parade on this flickr photo set.

RTÉ waking up? The Digital Evolution Integration Strategy

RTÉ Digital Evolution Integration Strategy

RTÉ have a site up for new broadcast and IT jobs, check it out here. The mini site outlines RTÉ’s DEIS - their Digital Evolution Integration Strategy. They have a promo video up to explain themselves. And

GASP!

The video is in Flash! Not Realplayer! That aside, the whole DEIS thing is welcome, if long over due. It’s good to see they are at least aware of the changing landscape. The promo video is a little full of people being over enthused at mobile video, but hey, at least they’re talking about it.
